Seoul, S. Korea, May 2, 2017 :SsangYong Motor Company(CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 11,071 units in April 2017 – 8,346 units in domestic sales and 2,725 in exports.
SsangYong’s April sales decreased by 17.8 percent over the previous year due to waiting demand for the G4 Rexton (Export name: Rexton) to be sold from May and the sluggish global market
Its domestic sales in April, which had increased for the third month in a row, dropped by 8.6 percent over the same month last year due to potential demand for the G4 Rexton.
However, on an accumulated basis, its sales still remained a growth of 3 percent at home as the Tivoli brand models, ranking No.1 in the compact SUV market since its launch, sold over 5,000 units continuously.
SsangYong’s exports also dropped by 37.1 percent compared to the same month last year due to sluggish global economy, while its fall in Jan-April exports reduced to 18 percent over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, SsangYong explained that its sales will go up greatly from this month when the G4 Rexton is scheduled to be delivered to customers. The G4 Rexton is invigorating the large SUV market with over 3,500 pre-bookings in a week.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, “It is very encouraging that the G4 Rexton received large number of pre-bookings even though it is a large SUV,” adding, “We will further increase our global sales by actively responding to growing large SUV market with the launch of the G4 Rexton.”
