Ssangyong Motor (CEO Lee Yoo-il;www.kg-mobility.com), part of the USD 16.7 billion Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 11,634units in January 2014 – 5,445 units in domestic sales and 6,189 in exports, including CKD kits.

Its sales in January increased by 9.5% compared to the same month last year backed by robust sales of the Korando family brand including the Korando Turismo, despite reduced working days due to Lunar New Year holidays.

In particular, its domestic sales rose by 34.9% year-on-year, showing continued uptrend of monthly sales with 5,000 units since April 2013. This performance was attributed to continuous sales increase of the New Korando C, Korando Sports and Korando Turismo.

The exports excluding CKD kits increased by 1.8% from a year earlier. This was backed by the New Korando C which was exported to global markets in earnest. The monthly exports of Korando C were at more than 3,000 units since Oct 2013 thanks to increased sales in Russia and China.

However, the company’s total exports dropped by 6% compared to the same month last year due to reduced production of CKD kits in line with decreased working days.

Meanwhile, the company set a sales goal of 160,000 units this year, up 10% YOY based on the excellent performance in 2013.
The company recorded its highest ever sales last year since 2002.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Despite reduced working days due to Lunar New Year holidays in January, our monthly sales increased by 9.5% from a year earlier," adding, "This year we aim to maintain the sales uptrend for five consecutive years as well as achieve our challenging sales goal by expanding sales of popular models including the Korando family brand."
