Title Ssangyong Motor’s global sales exceed 12,000 units for fourth consecutive month in July 2013

▪ Posted highest ever monthly domestic sales in 2013 during July with an increase of 38.5%
  year-on-year, keeping an upward trend for the seventh straight month

▪ Ssangyong will further increase its sales momentum by launching the face-lifted Korando C,
  which enhances its market appeal


Ssangyong Motor (CEO Lee Yoo-il;www.kg-mobility.com), part of the USD 16.2 billion Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 12,536 vehicles in July 2013 – 5,768 vehicles in domestic sales and 6,768 in exports, including CKD kits.

Ssangyong’s monthly global sales exceeded 12,000 units for four months in a row backed by the launch of the Korando Turismo. Its sales in July also increased by 28.5% from a year earlier and its cumulative sales rose by 23.5% compared to the same period last year.

This sales growth was driven by a domestic sales upswing, which has continued for the seventh straight month during July. The Korando series including Korando Turismo have led this sales momentum.

Domestic sales in July jumped to the highest level in 2013 with an increase of 38.5% from a year earlier, exceeding 5,000 units every month since April.

Ssangyong’s exports grew by 21% year-on-year thanks to increased shipments of the Korando C gasoline model as well as increased sales in the Russian and Chilean markets.

Compared to June, exports decreased by 6.6% temporarily due to reduced working days at the plant as a result of the summer vacation schedule and priority being given towards meeting domestic demand. Ssangyong expects that its exports will increase again once the number of working days are back to the normal level.

Ssangyong will launch the face-lifted Korando C to respond to an expansion in the SUV market as outdoor activities are increasing in popularity. The company expects a far stronger sales growth with the face-lifted Korando C, which will improve its market appeal.

Meanwhile, Ssangyong has concluded a annual strike-free wage bargaining agreement for the fourth straight year with its labor union on July 25. This will help secure a foundation of production growth to continue an uptrend in sales, and focus on expanding volumes based on stable labor-management relations.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Ssangyong’s monthly global sales have exceeded 12,000 units for four consecutive months this year backed by increased domestic sales for seven months in a row,” adding, “We will further increase our sales through the launch of the Korando C Facelift which has enhanced marketability.”
