▪ Ssangyong will increase its global sales by expanding overseas markets and increasing production

Ssangyong Motor (CEO Lee Yoo-il;www.kg-mobility.com), part of the US$15.9 billion Mahindra Group, announced on March 4th, 2013 that the company sold a total of 9,884 vehicles in February 2013 – 4,334 vehicles in domestic sales and 5,550 in exports including CKD.

Despite decreased number of working days due to Lunar New Year holidays, Ssangyong’s sales increased by 11.5% compared to the same month last year and its cumulative sales grew by 19.9% compared to the same period last year.

Especially its domestic sales increased by 39.3% year-on-year with exceeding 4,000 vehicles for the six consecutive months since last September. It was made possible thanks to robust sales of the Korando series and newly launched Korando Turismo. (Export name;Rodius)

Furthermore, the Korando Turismo has received over 2,000 contracts in 15 business days since its launch and overwhelming response from the market more than expected. It is expected to lead sales momentum in the future based on such good sales performance.

Ssangyong’s exports decreased by 3.6% temporarily from a year earlier since the company has met increased demand for the refreshed models from domestic market first in order to solve a backlog.

However, its cumulative sales grew by 8.5% compared to the same period last year thanks to uptrend in exports. The company said that exports will continuously increase through the launch of the Korando Turismo in overseas markets and expansion of SUV production volumes which results in solving a backlog in the domestic market.

Ssangyong is going to expand its overseas markets by introducing the Korando Turismo at the Geneva Motor Show held from March 5th in European market.

Meanwhile, Ssangyong will focus on building up the image of recently launched Korando Turismo as premium MLV (Multi Leisure Vehicle) perfect for leisure and outdoor lifestyle by holding various seasonal customer programs including Snow Driving School & Auto Camping, Virtual Golf Simulator Contest and ski camp.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “The Korando Turismo has been receiving overwhelming response from the market more than expected thanks to the trend toward increasing customers who enjoy outdoor lifestyle and development concept for the Korando Turismo,” adding, “We will further increase our global sales by expanding overseas markets in earnest through the Geneva Motor Show as well as increasing the domestic sales.”
