SsangYong Motor (CEO and President Hyung-Tak Choi;www.kg-mobility.com) held a launching event to commence sales of the 'Chairman W', a flagship sedan, in China, during the 10th Beijing Motor Show (Auto China 2008; April 20-28) on April 20. The company also launched the 'Rexton II' which is equipped with the 3,200cc EURO IV gasoline engine.
SsangYong Motor first entered the Chinese market in 2001. The 'Chairman', 'Rexton II', 'New Kyron', 'Actyon' and 'New Rodius' are actively making inroads into the market. By launching the 'Chairman W' during the motor show period, SsangYong Motor will expand its product line-up to include the large sedan sector, thereby answering the diverse needs of Chinese consumers.
The 'Chairman W' that was launched through this motor show offers various functions as part of its standard specifications that incorporate the needs of Chinese customers: It includes the in-line six-cylindered XGi3600 engine, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ten airbag systems, including the dual knee-airbag, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), and Touch Sensor Smart Key System. SsangYong Motor will be able to feature its distinctive brand image as a high-class passenger car manufacturer in the Chinese market.
The 'Rexton II' includes a 3,200cc gasoline engine that satisfies the EURO IV standards, which are strengthened environmental standards in China. It is expected that the「Rexton II」 will further strengthen SsangYong Motor’s reputation as a leader in the prestigious SUV market.
Sales of the「Chairman W」in China will be handled by Shanghai Automotive Industry Sales Co., Ltd. (SAISC), which is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor responsible for selling complete build units of SsangYong Motor in China. It is forecast that SAIC Motor will expand the number of dealerships of SAISC from around 60 to 75 by the end of this year to accelerate local sales of the 'Chairman W'.
During this tenth motor show, SsangYong Motor is exhibiting nine vehicles ?C including the 'Chairman W', 'Rexton II', 'New Kyron', 'Actyon' and 'New Rodius' ?C in an exhibition space spanning 800?O, based on the concept, "Ambition larger than the world, and a vision wider than the world."
The 'Chairman W' launching event was attended by Shanghai Automotive Industrial Group Chairman Maoyuan Hu, Vice Chairman Hong Chen, SsangYong Motor Representative Director Haitao Zhang, President Hyung-tak Choi, and Vice President Qingsong Lan. It consisted of an introduction to the 'Chairman W' by Managing Director Myung-hack Lee of the SsangYong Motor Design Center, a pop-opera performance, and the unveiling of the 'Chairman W'.
During the 'Chairman W' launching event on April 20, CEO and President Hyung-tak Choi said, "SsangYong Motor has been playing a leading role in the Korean SUV market based on cutting-edge diesel engine technologies. The company is extremely proud of releasing the 'Chairman W', a Korean flagship large sedan with outstanding performance and quality, in the Chinese market, which is rapidly growing into the world's second biggest market. We will be able to successfully advance into the market based on active support and cooperation by SAIC Motor."
